Felt experience, media & statistics

Three registers that public debate constantly conflates.

A. Lived experience

What people believe they endure: injustice, insecurity, mental load, fear of judgment. Real — it drives behaviour — but filtered by personal history and media diet.

B. Media & algorithmic narrative

Traditional media under-represent women in “general interest” topics (~74% male subjects, GMMP). Social networks can over-weight gender topics relative to everyday life. Two complementary distortions.

C. Official data

INSEE, SSMSI, victimisation surveys. Example: headline pay gap ~22% collapses when controlling hours, occupation, employer; residual ~3.6% (INSEE 2024) is not a pure discrimination measure.
